While Chapel Gate is run by BUCB, there is still a desire to follow Bournemouth University’s lead in committing to inspire, celebrate and advance the critical role that education plays in delivering the UN Sustainable Development Goals, through the SDG Accord commitment.
BUCB has already committed to sourcing all electricity from sustainable sources, and our sustainability team continue to explore other options to reduce our carbon emissions at Chapel Gate.
BUCB are also exploring a number of potential installations that could help to reduce the carbon footprint of Chapel Gate. This includes changing all internal lighting to LED, and the plan to replace all floodlighting to LED lights.
There is a longer term desire to move away from the use of LPG on site, and to utilise more sustainable methods of energy production to provide heating and hot water.
Active travel, including walking and cycling, are the most sustainable options but most importantly they are also great fun, great for your health, and even your mood!
Chapel Gate is already home to the Beryl Bike scheme where pay-as-you-go bike hire has never been easier. We also have plans to install additional secure bike parking in Summer 2021.
While Chapel Gate is situated in a remote location, there are bus routes that service Bournemouth Airport, the Aviation park and Parley Cross, all within walking distance from Chapel Gate. Bus services include More Bus and Yellow Buses.
